Car Evaluations:
- The client that requires this type of evaluation is usually able to walk with or without assistance or if a wheelchair user can transfer into a car independently. This person may not need any adaptive driving equipment or may need Low Tech mechanical equipment such as hand controls, a steering device or left foot accelerator.
- New drivers will be assessed to determine their potential to become independent drivers
- Driver’s with memory loss may be assessed over multiple sessions to look at driving in familiar verses unfamiliar areas
Van Evaluation: This category is divided into three subcategories:
- Low Tech Van: Clients that drive from wheelchair but require Low Tech driving equipment such as hand controls, a steering device or left foot accelerator.
- Mid Tech Van: Clients that drive from a wheelchair and/or require Moderate Tech driving equipment such as horizontal steering, zero effort steering, or electronic gas and brake, may include remote secondary controls
- High Tech Vans: These are the clients that drive from a wheelchair and/or because of significant weakness, limited range of motion or use of only one limb will require electronic equipment to operate the primary controls. This can include electronic gas/brake and steering (either used with two limbs or combined in a joystick for use with one limb) and remote controls to operate secondary equipment such as turn signals, horn, ignition, wipers and gear shift.
